Presentation transcript:

Thursday 10/5/17 Notebook Entry: The gatekeeper is only going to give you keys to the fort if you can clearly explain your boat design. What information do you think the gatekeeper will want to know before giving you the keys. Please turn in your Build a Better Boat 2: Records and Reflect Questions pages ONLY if you are finished with the reflect questions.

Writing a Scientific Explanation Scientific knowledge that justifies why your evidence supports the claim. Statement about the results of an investigation. Claim + Evidence + Reasoning = Explanation Data you collected that supports the claim.

Data Analysis Claim: Evidence: Reasoning: While watching the commercial write down in your spiral notebook the girls claim, evidence, and reasoning. Audi car commercial (click on claims evidence reasoning graphic).

Example of a Scientific Explanation Claim – highlight in green Evidence – highlight in yellow Reasoning – highlight in pink

A faster bat swing produces a faster batted ball speed. Testable Question: How does the speed of the bat swing affect the speed at which the ball travels after it has been hit?   Claim Evidence A faster bat swing produces a faster batted ball speed. Doubling the swing speed of the bat results in an increased ball speed of almost 22mph Reasoning: The faster an object is moving the more force it will have when it hits another object.

Thermometer Pre-Test Pre-test for our next unit. Please answer only on the left hand side of the page. Turn in your answer when you are finished.
