Preliminary Lab Conference Terry A. Ring ChE University of Utah

Preliminary Lab Conference Scheduled For Lab Time Wed 23 Aug – Mon. 28 August 20 min. Discussion with Lab Instructor Get your team ready for an efficient meeting

Content Know the equipment Know equipment Hazards Know the Theory Error Analysis Know the Chemical Hazards Safety Procedures for various what if scenarios

Know the equipment Bring P&ID of equipment!!! Be prepared to talk about how it works? What is measured with what instruments? What is the physics of instruments? How accurate are these instruments? How will measurement be used to verify the theory?

Know the Theory With the problem statement, what theory is needed? How are measurements going to be used to prove the theory being tested? How are the theory and measurements going to be used for the design aspect of the problem?

Error Analysis How will error analysis be performed on the data to verify the theory? Is the measurement equipment accurate enough for this test of the theory? What statistical test will you use to compare theory with experiment? How will you propagate the error in any (design) calculation needed for your report?

Hazards File out Job Hazard Assessment Form Chemical Equipment See Homework part of web site. Chemical EHS concerns for each chemical Personal Protections needed Spill Procedures to be followed Waste Procedures Equipment Safety concerns of its operation How can you get hurt using it?

Safety Procedures What to do in case of Fire Electrical Hazard Spill
