GENETIC ENGINEERING
Genetic engineering includes a set of techniques that allow us to manipulate DNA. Developped from the 1970s thanks to the discovery of restriction enzymes and PCR (Polimerase Chain Reaction).
Recombinant DNA process Donator: organism that provides with the fragment of DNA that we will introduce in the host. Host: Cell that will be genetically modified Restriction enzymes: cut fragments of DNA by determined sequences. DNA ligase enzymes: join together fragments using sticky ends. Vector: organism that is used as a vehicle for the DNA to enter the cell. Plasmids and viruses.
Plasmids Circular piece of DNA found in bacteria that serve us as a vehicle to insert DNA into a celll.
