October 24th, 2018 (SAT Prep Vocabulary) Aim: How do we use vocabulary skills to develop sophisticated writing? DO NOW: Chapter 3: SAT Vocabulary. Copy the words in the LS portion of your notebook, use your phone/dictionary to find the meaning of the words. Rationale: Students are expected to use sophisticated words/language in their essays in order to get the maximum scores for their essays. (Organization & Style component of the rubric) Learning Objectives: SWBAT identify complex/sophisticated vocabulary, and create a sentence out of the words. SWBAT use context clues to define the meaning of the words SWBAT analyze how the words are used in certain scenarios/statements. AGENDA: Do Now: Students will copy the words in their notebook and use their phones to look for the meaning of the words. Words in Context. The students will copy the official definition of the words in their notebook including the part of speech. CFU! QUIZ: Sentence check using the learned vocabulary. At the back of the paper, they will choose 5 out of 10 words to create a sentence using the vocabulary. Next Step: Students are expected to use these vocabulary in academic conversations and in their writings.
