Batteries
While there are many different types of batteries, the way they work is the same.
Every battery contains 2 electrodes and an electrolyte Every battery contains 2 electrodes and an electrolyte. Between the electrodes is a spacer that separates them.
When a device is hooked up to a battery, a chemical reaction occurs that produces electrical energy.
In our battery, the zinc and the copper had a chemical reaction In our battery, the zinc and the copper had a chemical reaction. This is why you saw the ends of the battery look “different” after they sat in the solution.
This reaction causes electrons (tiny parts of atoms) to jump from one electrode to another. Which electrode lost electrons? Which electrode gained electrons? copper zinc
How can you tell which gained and which lost?
