Presentation transcript:

Relation of Structural Geology to other branches of Geology Structural geology as a discipline is closely related to many other fields of Earth Sciences. STRATIGRAPHY – deals with the succession of rock formation. Y Normal Y Overturned Y

Relation of Structural Geology to other branches of Geology PETROLOGY – the study of rocks. It includes petrography, the systematic description of rocks, shed much light on the structural history of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. MINERALOGY – deals with the classification, atomic structure and genesis of minerals.

Relation of Structural Geology to other branches of Geology PALEONTOLOGY – study of the fossils. GEOCHRONOLOGY – deals with the dating of geological events. VOLCANOLOGY – is the study of the volcanoes and volcanic rocks.

Landforms: Traditionally the landforms of Bangladesh are divided into three major units. Tertiarry hills of north-east Sylhet, Chittagong and Chittagong Hill tracts –12.6% Pleistocene Uplands- found in the marginal and interior portion of the country –8.3% Holocene plains including Piedmont plains, Flood plains, Deltaic plains, Depressed lands and coastal plains –79.1%
