OBJECTIVES Analyzing conflict Identify and understand elements of oral tradition

Struggle between two opposing forces. Conflict

Internal Conflict Takes place in the mind of the character.

External Conflict Exists when a character struggles against some outside force, such as another person, nature, society, or fate.

Oral Tradition Messages or testimony are passed orally from one generation to the next. In this way, it is possible for a society to transmit history, literature, law and other knowledge across generations without a writing system.

BARD An oral poet. Used rhythm to enhance meaning. Just as musicians play to a steady rhythm, Homer, and other oral poets have a steady rhythm to their words.
