Presentation transcript:

Lesson 8.1 How do you use properties of exponents involving products? To multiply two powers with the same base, add their exponents. To raise a power to a power, multiply their exponents.

Lesson 8.2 How do you use properties of exponents involving quotients? To divide two powers with the same base, subtract their exponents. To raise a quotient to a power, find the power of the numerator and the power of the denominator.

Lesson 8.3 How do you use zero and negative exponents? For any number raised to the zero power, it equals 1. For a negative exponent, reciprocate it and make the exponent positive. (Turn expressions with negative exponents into fractions)

Lesson 8.4 How do you write a number in scientific notation? Move your decimal point to the left or the right to create a number between 1 and 10. Count the number of places you moved the decimal point, this is your exponent. If you moved to the left, it’s positive. If you moved to the right, it’s negative. Write as a product of the number and the power of 10.

Lesson 8.5 𝑦=𝑎 1+𝑟 𝑡 Growth Model How do you write exponential growth functions? How do you graph exponential growth functions? Find the value of a by finding the y value when x is 0. Find the value of b by determining how y values are changing. Write the function rule as 𝑦=𝑎 𝑏 𝑥 Make an x/y table. Plots the points. Draw a smooth curve through the points. Growth Model 𝑦=𝑎 1+𝑟 𝑡

Lesson 8.6 𝑦=𝑎 1−𝑟 𝑡 Decay Model How do you write exponential decay functions? How do you graph exponential decay functions? Find the value of a by finding the y value when x is 0. Find the value of b by determining how y values are changing. Write the function rule as 𝑦=𝑎 𝑏 𝑥 Make an x/y table. Plots the points. Draw a smooth curve through the points. Decay Model 𝑦=𝑎 1−𝑟 𝑡
