AIM OF THIS TALK: Highlight our work program for next year Prepare a debate on priorities

Introduction Eurostat, after its crisis of 2003, should concentrate on its “core business” But: user needs remain the same Problem of priority setting The staff has changed to a large extend Fine-tuning of the work program will be realised in the course of 2004

Tasks currently foreseen

Crucial tasks of the sector Regional GDP estimations As every year - January & summer estimation (?) Major input for DG REGIO Regional Unemployment data New methodology Now in September instead of May Regional population data As every year; major input to many other statistics

Crucial tasks of the sector (2) The regional yearbook Continues to be a bestseller of Eurostat Planned for September 2004 (but plans….) Quality assurance Current project (contractor CBS) comes into 3rd year NUTS Regulation: Implementation A new project ! Manual, publication of LAU level 2 data, preparation of NUTS level 4 assessment
