Agenda Item 4 : (a) – proposals for testing of quality and representativeness of monitoring data and for presentation of results B.FRIBOURG-BLANC, IOW (b.fribourg-blanc@oieau.fr)

Data collection 2008 and 2009 A strictly defined template with 22 mandatory fields Flexibility introduced on 8 fields (longitude/latitude, LoD/LoQ, type of station, date of sampling, biota species, laboratory name) A flexible data collection tool, and detailed documentation for non experts, to: - minimise reporting burden: except on some validity checks, any fraction, any unit, any substance even with missing mandatory fields is accepted - allow decentralised distribution of the tool (experienced by RO) - maximise quantity of data collected Interaction between data provider and consultant for correction of missing fields and coherence

Factsheets: Summary information available Factsheets: summary information for each of the 1151 substances Website available at (last update 5/07/09): http://www.priority.substances.wfd.oieau.fr/ Password: visitor One factsheet per substance with summary statistics By country By Waterbody Distribution of concentration by fraction and along DLs Number of analyses by year and country Map of all stations For each factsheet a downloadable pdf file A section “download” with reports made of various selections of factsheets zip file of all factsheets

Testing quality and representativeness Factsheets provide summary statistics + geographical distribution PEC1 and PEC2 : Unique set of calculation steps applied PEC1= 90th percentile of quantified values PEC2= 90th percentile of all values Available data: highly variable in quantity and quality Substances ranking high : a need for high robustness  A need to introduce additional tests to check quality and representativeness

Testing quality and representativeness Distribution statistics and summary information proposed table: Substance CAS (1) Substance name Fraction (2) Total Nb analysis (3) Total Nb stations Nb Member States Nb RBD PNEC PEC1 PEC2 Nb analysis <=DLs (used in PEC2 calc.) % analysis <=DLs for which LoD>2PNEC   Nb stations with quantified results (>DL) (A) Nb analysis >DL (used in PEC1 and PEC2 calc.) Conclusions and perspectives Any other suggested tests? Need to consider fields of the template… Need to define discard rules… Two proposed tests for discussion: Which (additional) discard criteria? Adaptation needed?

Thanks for your attention…
