Declaration of Independence PowerPoint

Who wrote it? Thomas Jefferson and four others wrote the Declaration of Independence.

How is it organized? It explains why colonies need to break away from Britain, explains that people have rights that cannot be taken away and that “all men are created equal”, it lists complaints against the king, it argues that colonies must be free in order to protect the rights of their people, it declares that colonies are independent, delegates to congress signed the document.

Why is it necessary? The Declaration of Independence is necessary because congress needed a document that declared why the 13 colonies should become independent of Britain. It is necessary because it gives freedom, liberty, and equality to the people.

How is it a response to tyranny and the abuse of power? The Declaration of Independence lists many ways that King George had abused his power. It discussed how he had taken away colonists’ rights and forced taxes on them as well as put soldiers in charge of them. The Declaration of Independence gave many reasons why the colonists should separate from the king and create their own government.
