Results - Proportion of people dying at home Figure 2 – Place of death for Marie Curie Nursing Service patients & matched controls 77% of Marie Curie Nursing Service patients died at home but only 35% of controls Impact of Marie Curie Nursing Service care on home deaths is greater for those with no history of cancer than for those with cancer

What was the impact of these services What was the impact of these services? University of Bristol evaluation looked at 6 month period: DCP (yellow) users more at home / less in hospital than non DCP (orange) This reflected in impact on all deaths. Evaluation did analysis to control for patient groups – i.e. age & diagnosis – to check that DCP wasn’t attracting a type of patients inherently prone to home death.
