Teacher Collaborations: The All-Important PLC

A Quick Survey Kahoot.it

Introduction A growing criticism of the American education system is that teachers spend too much of their time distanced from their colleagues (a recent survey found that teachers spend just 3% of their school day collaborating with other teachers), encouraging competition rather than collaboration, and making it difficult for teachers to work together to solve educational and institutional issues.

Top Secret Why do we want to keep the successful strategies and techniques we use in our classrooms secret?

Best of the Best Things don’t have to be that way at your school. Educators can change together in order to make their school the best of the best.

Collaboration There are many ways that we can reach out and connect with our colleagues to build a more collaborative atmosphere.

PLCs Sharing during PLC time can be a stress reliever, provide an opportunity to learn new techniques, and provide a time to “sound off.”

Teach and Learn From Each Other We all have unique skills and knowledge that are well worth sharing with others. What are your unique talents?

Success If you are seeing amazing results from students in your classroom, you should be sharing your successful techniques and lessons with other teachers.

Experience We can also draw on our colleagues’ experiences with what works for them, making our students’ experiences all the better in the process.

Sharing We are going to share our own experiences and ideas that can assist our colleagues to connect and ultimately improve the quality of instruction we offer on a daily basis.

Strategies That Work What was the most successful strategy, teaching method and/or tool(s) that you used last semester?

Group Sharing of Strategies/Tools Give specific strategies and/or tools that you currently use or have used in your classes last semester/previous years. Be sure to elaborate. Have groups of four work for ten minutes then share. The answers will be written on large post it note pages. Discuss how the strategies or tools can be used in the 21st century classroom.

Common Goal We all share a common goal – we want our children to succeed. Bob Taft
