Successful Learning Environment Hands-on lesson plans Activities that promote the children’s interest Developmentally appropriate activities. Positive and nurturing environment.

Establishing Discipline Set rules and expectations early on, and throughout activities. Be Consistent with expectations. Model Expectations Guide and redirect children that may be Having a hard time understanding or following rules or expectations.

Observation Techniques In order to make sure that students are going to get the material I will use anecdotal notes, an observation checklist, and have another teacher video tape the lesson. I feel that these things will be beneficial because the anecdotal notes can help me learn about the progress each child has been making. The checklist will help me learn about the child’s developmental level. Having the class videotaped can be very helpful, because I will be able to see exactly what each child is doing, and if they are participating in the activity. The video will also help determine if the skills being taught are being met or if they are to difficult for certain children.

Student Evaluation Techniques I would evaluate each child’s progress by using progress reports. These reports will help me identify any skills that children might need to build on. I would also use a checklist to evaluate skills in the psychomotor domain. I would test a students cognitive domain by using written tests. To evaluate a child’s affective domain I would use a simple student assessment tool, in which the students would evaluate themselves.

Reflective Teaching I would use a journal in which I would write in after every lesson. In my journal I would ask questions such as: -Did I prepare ahead of time? -Did I state my instructional goals for the lesson? -Did I teach with enthusiasm and energy? -Did I praise students that made an effort or improved? (Pangrazi, R. & Beighle, A. (2013) pg.59)

Generic Skill Levels There are four levels of student abilities. I am going to meet all of my students abilities by observing each child’s abilities and planning a developmentally appropriate activity or modification for that child. I will plan activities that will challenge children that are advanced as well as activities that help children build on and learn new skills.

Including All Children Activities may be modified for students. Observe each child’s abilities and focus on their abilities when planning activities. Physical support or guidance when needed.

Time Spent on Teaching I would spend thirty minutes each day on games, dance and gymnastics. I would begin by introducing the activity as well as the safety rules. I would then have children perform the lesson or activity and assist any student that may need assistance. I think thirty minutes for these activities is a good time because it allows the students enough time to try the activity as well as time to get any assistance from the instructor.

Integration of Movement Concepts & Skill Themes I will integrate skill themes into my curriculum by providing activities that help children learn and improve their physical skills. I would do this by helping build on children’s skills by providing different variations of how the skill is performed focusing on one skill theme at a time. I would integrate movement concepts by providing activities that show how to perform a skill. Movement concepts can be introduced in different games that are fun for children. I would do these things in order to help children gain different skills and enjoy participating in physical activities.

Dynamic Physical Education From the text, assignments, and class discussions I have learned a lot about physical education. In comparison to the school that I currently work I do see some similarities. The main similarity is the time. Students are provided with at least two 30 min. recesses. In my daughters school I have noticed that the physical education offered is enjoyed by the students, and they have a lot of different activities to promote the child’s interest. I have observed the instructors reviewing the lesson or activity being taught to the children. The instructor performs the activity and then has the children do the same activity. He provides assistance when needed.

Self Actualization In the area of physical development I would like to be the type of teacher that is able to provide physical activities that include everyone and help everyone improve skills that they already have as well as provide assistance in improving skills. I believe I have always had a positive attitude about physical development, but I did not fully understand the importance of learning and improving on basic skills needed before participating a sport or game. Now that I know the importance of teaching skills before a game, I plan on helping children fully develop the skills needed before participating in a physical activity.

Conclusion One goal that I would like to accomplish in my current job, with regards to physical education would be, to basically implement it more. I would also like to provide activities that children are not familiar with or do not have the equipment available to them. One example of an activity I would like to have available would be a rock climbing wall.

Building Support for Physical Activities I think the best way to encourage others to get on board and add physical education elements/curriculum to my work place would be to lead by example. I would start integrating more physical activities and discussing the importance and benefits of these activities to others, so that they may want to start implementing physical activities as well.
