Intro to Law The Basics

Review questions What is a law? Who decides what is a law? the system of rules that a community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties. A set of rules that tells you how to act and not act Who decides what is a law? 2 types of law: statutory (written by legislators) and case law (decided by judges)

What is the law in the picture? For the chart: 1. What is the law in the pic? 2. Is it a civil or criminal law? (criminal=jail time, civil=money) 3. What is the purpose of the law? Or Who/what is it protecting or protecting against? (morality, safety, protect property, fairness, public health, order and stability, protect human rights/minority rights).
