Do Now – 9/18 & 9/21 How did the Inca overcome their problems of a large, populous, diverse, and geographically challenging civilization to become complex? Identify at least two problems and the Inca’s solutions to them. HW: Quiz on Maya, Aztec, & Inca – Thursday, Sept. 24 (A Day) & Friday, Sept. 25 (B Day) Sufficiently: (adv.) adequate for the purpose; enough. Game Plan: Do Now (5 min) Opening Discussion (10 min) Problem Solving Wrap- up Primary Source Matching Closing Discussion & Announcements (5 min) Exit Ticket (5 min)

Our Goal SWBAT: Essential Questions: Prove that the Inca were viewed as an advanced civilization by the Spanish in order to practice analytical sentence structure and using evidence to support a claim. Who were the Inca, and in what ways were they considered an advanced civilization? What does proving a point look like?

The Inca: Choose your own adventure Adventure A: Adventure B: Finish the problem solving worksheet about the Inca & place in the back bin Read the primary source and match at least TWO quotes with what they prove, and complete the graphic organizer for those two. If you have finished the problem solving worksheet, begin by reading the primary source by Pedro Cieza De Leon about his encounter with the Inca. Remember to do SOAPS! Complete the graphic organizer by matching a quote (written with a sentence stem) with the characteristic of a complex civilization that it proves.

Announcements We need to study more!! Maya quizzes were not as good as they could be. Test on Maya, Aztec, & Inca on Thursday, Sept. 24/Friday, Sept. 25 – WRITE THIS DOWN NOW! Test-taking strategies: take it slow, double check your answers Study strategies: review more OFTEN, don’t cram! Flashcards! (EngradePro, Quizlet)  Vocab Words Read over notes Rewatch video lessons – they’re always on the class website Ask me questions about what you do not understand!

Exit Ticket: “SAY IT!” A thesis statement should state the entire claim of what you are about to write about. If it is not in your thesis, you should not write about it, and if you write about it, it should be in your thesis! Create a thesis statement to express a claim about how the Inca were a complex civilization: Straight Ahead: The Inca were a complex society because ___[fact 1]___, _[fact 2]__, and __[fact 3]__. Hilly: Due to their ___[fact 1]___, _[fact 2]__, and __[fact 3]__, the Inca are considered a complex society. Mountainous: Although the Inca _[fact – not complex]_, they are a complex society due to their ___[fact 1]___, _[fact 2]__, and __[fact 3]__. HW: Quiz on Maya, Aztec, and Inca – 9/24 & 9/25
