Friday Writing: Opinion Paragraph This week we will emphasize writing a topic sentence by “turning around” a question and restating it. From Teacher’s Desk the Parents, A topic sentence is the most important sentence in a paragraph. Sometimes referred to as a focus sentence, the topic sentence helps organize the paragraph by summarizing the information in the paragraph. In formal writing, the topic sentence is usually the first sentence in a paragraph. To help students, this week I am training them to look at a question and “turn it around.” By restating the question, they are learning to identify the topic and respond with an organized thought.
