COMMONLY OCCUR IN PRE TERM BABIES BABIES OF DIABETIC MOTHERS INFANTS DELIVERED BY C.Section Following breech delivery

PATHOGENESIS NEONATE DEFICIENT SURFACTANT PULMONARY ATELECTASIS HYPOXIA AND ACIDOSIS FORMATION OF HYALINE MEMBRANE

CLINICAL FEATURES Abrupt 4-6 hrs after birth Respiratory rate more than 60/ minute Rib retraction Expiratory grunt Cyanosis

PREVENTION Administration of Betamethasone Assess lung maturity Prevent fetal hypoxia in diabetic mothers

TREATMENT Intensive Neonatal care unit Warm incubator Adequate warmed and humidified oxygen Prevention and treatment of infection Correction of hypovolemia Correction anemia and electrolyte imbalance Frequent monitoring Surfactant therapy Intra gastric feeding

COMPLICATION Intraventricular haemorrhage Bronchopulmonary displasia Pulmonary haemorrhage Pneumothorax Retrolental fibroplasia Neurological abnormalities
