The Rest of the Story Ruth 4:1-22

4:1-12 The gate is an important meeting place, and the elders will serve as witnesses (v. 1-2). The close relative initially accepts to redeem the land, but he declines when he realizes he needs to marry Ruth (v. 4-6). Boaz agrees to redeem the property and marry Ruth. The elders pronounce a great blessing upon Ruth and their house.

4:13-17 The Lord gave Boaz and Ruth a child; Ruth had been childless for 10 years (1:4-5; 3:13). Reversal of circumstances: the women tell Naomi how God has not left her (3:14).

4:18-22 Genealogies show history; 10 names are given down to David. …and the rest of the genealogy is in Matthew 1 and following.

Main Idea Jesus is the ultimate kinsman-redeemer, and He accomplishes His will through broken outcasts.

Application Know that you are never too far removed to be used by God. God is merciful to redeem you. By God’s help, keep the aim of your life to live for him. Follow Jesus regardless of your family situation. Be like God to love the outcast and downtrodden. Look to the nations to see how you can be involved in mission.
