Texas STaR Chart School Technology and Readiness

What is the STaR Chart? Online survey For Texas teachers To collect data for reporting To determine needs for funding, training, etc Data is reported to state and federal policymakers.

Why does it exist? To determine the need for Professional development Funding Grants or other resources Vision of technology

Who does it benefit? All Stakeholders Campus Administration District Administration Teachers Students Parents

All classrooms have baseline equipment of SmartBoard, projector, computer, etc. 4 student work stations in each classroom Recommendations Continued staff development and incentives to implement technology into lessons daily

Key Area II – Educator Preparation & Development Discrepancies Increases then decreases were due to change in staff and attitudes as well as normal fluctuations found in a survey. Perhaps a small increase of staff development then a slight increase the following year. Recommendations Increased support and incentives for teachers to attend technology staff development. Teachers required to meet 6 credits of technology staff development per semester.

Key Area Iv – Infrastructure for Technology Discrepancies Decreases so minimal due to survey and timing teachers take to complete. Decreases could be due to moral of teachers and attitude at the time. Recommendations Persistent increase of student to computer ratio. Increase teachers knowledge of how to effectively use the technology hardware and software available in classroom lessons to engage students most.
