Introducing Philip O'Shaughnessy Subject Librarian Matt Durant Collections Librarian (Book and Course Materials) Adam Sheppard Senior Lecturer

Readinglists.uwe.ac.uk Web-based resource for academics to create quick and flexible reading lists Supports traditional print based resources as well as digital Enabling us to think differently about how reading or resource lists are put together and delivered to students Phil

Activity Each group will be handed a different example of a reading list: Email Word doc / print out for first lecture Module handbook List in Blackboard Blackboard announcement We would like you, as a group, to explore strengths / weaknesses of each approach to sharing reading Please swap examples if you have finished Phil

Feedback from group What were the most used examples? Were there any examples that you use that weren’t here? Is there an example that seems to work for you? Matt

Reading List: My initial reaction Another software package I need to learn and use Another software package the students need to learn and use Another demand on my workload What is the value? Do I/We need this?

Reading List: My experience It is very easy to use It is quick and easily updated It is transferable It is dynamic and interactive It is a good package!

Reading List: My students' experience It is very easy to use It is dynamic and interactive It helps my learning journey It is an improvement My lecturer could use it more effectively

Reading List: My learning I don't think about how I use my reading lists enough I don't think about how the students use reading lists enough I need to embed this into my teaching, not only create this I need to support the students to get the most from this

Using readinglists.uwe.ac.uk Reading lists can be created and embedded quickly within the Blackboard environment. The Library will be automatically notified if an item is not owned by us. The software includes flexibility to accommodate the needs of different disciplines and levels, and allows academic staff to follow our best practice guidance. Lists bibliographies can be displayed in UWE Bristol Harvard and OSCOLA referencing formats, as per the UWE Bristol word count policy. List owners can access student engagement data, such as how many students have accessed each item on the list. Digitisation requests can be made at the click of a button and updates can be provided through the system.
