Weathering and Erosion What happens to a rock that has been rained on for HUNDREDS of years? What about a rock that has had STRONG winds blowing on it for hundreds of years? What about TWO rocks that have been grinding against each other for hundreds of years?

Weathering and Erosion We call the process of rocks wearing down WEATHERING.

Weathering and Erosion Weathering usually happens when something slowly SQUEEZES AND PUSHES its way into a rock. This type of weathering can be caused by water, ice, or plant roots.

Weathering and Erosion Erosion is the process of TRANSPORTING and DEPOSITING small pieces of rock and soil in a new location.

Sedimentary Those small pieces of rock can be glued together to form sedimentary rock. The cement that holds sediments together are actually MINERAL CRYSTALS, usually from groundwater.
