Program Overview Project Enrichment is designed to be an integral part of the educational experience at Bay Trail. The program strives to provide students with skills they will need to become life long thinkers and learners. FYI – Be sure to click on underlined words to link to pictures, websites and more! 

Program Overview Project Enrichment is based on Joseph Renzulli’s Enrichment Triad Model. It is aligned with: Common Core Learning Standards, Bay Trail’s Mission and Core Beliefs, and The National Association of Gifted Children Program Standards.

Enrichment Goals To stimulate academic and creative talents To develop creative and critical thinking skills To provide an opportunity for peer socialization

Content Curriculum Related Opportunities Compacted/Enriched Units Shared Inquiry Discussion Collaboration

Enriched Units Enrichment teachers work with classroom teachers to develop a unit to extend or deepen the content of the basic unit. Examples: Poetry, Geology, Middle East, Social Studies Inquiry Units

Curriculum Compacting Compacting is a strategy used for students who are ready to master content in a shorter period of time than their peers. Time gained by this process is used for further in-depth study and/or research, related to the topic and based on student interest.

Curriculum Compacting Some examples of previously compacted units are River Civilizations (6), Periodic Table of Elements (7), and “Anne Frank” (8).

Shared Inquiry Discussion Shared Inquiry Discussion is based on the idea that many minds working together can achieve more insight into a high level work of literature than any individual.

Shared Inquiry Discussion Examples of the way we use this in our program are Junior Great Books, Starting Out Strong, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

Collaboration Collaboration involves enrichment specialists and classroom teachers working together to co-plan and/or co-teach a unit or lesson to meet student needs. Enrichment teachers attend grade level and team meetings.

Students can share at the IP GALA in Spring Genius Hour Projects Genius Hour Projects are learning experiences which are initiated by individual students with a particular interest. They are open to all students and take place during HOME Base. Students may start these at any time during the school year. The duration and topic vary according to student need. Large Group Presentations Large Group Presentations are usually a performance by an artist or expert. Opportunities are advertised through a variety of means including morning announcements, the Bay Trail website, flyers, e-news and Trailblazer articles. To participate, students need permission from the classroom teacher and an enrichment teacher.

Large Group Presentations Large Group Presentations we scheduled this year are Laser Science and African Drum and Dance.

Explorations Explorations we are planning: Arduinos Environmental Fair Coding

Field Trips Field Trips are offered to all students or to selected students based on teacher recommendation. Students complete an application to take part in a field trip. Some field trips being offered this year include Garth Fagan Dance at Nazareth College, and the Susan B. Anthony House & Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Book Bunch Book Bunch activities are collaborations between enrichment teachers and librarians. They are open to all students who are interested. This year we are planning: Cocoa Café – December Harry Potter Trivia - January Lemonade and Lit - June
