Unit 4- Huey Long- How did the Great Depression affect citizens of Louisiana? (8.2.7) Grade 8/Unit 4 Formative Performance Task 1 SUBSTITUTION Description of Formative Performance Task: You will… -Annotate and take notes on the article on Huey P Long “Every Man a King- Share Our Wealth”. -View the (Discovery Ed) video- American in the 20th Century: the Great Depression and take notes on it. Steps: 1) Take out lined paper and pencil. 2) http://www.hueylong.com/programs/economic-reform.php 2a)Teacher opens the above article link that is displayed on the PPT slide that is on the Promethean. 2b)Student volunteers come to the board to annotate the article. Students in desks will record the annotations and other article notes from the Promethean board to their lined paper. (Each student will also have a hard copy of the article at their desk.) 3) Students will view the video “American in the 20th Century: the Great Depression” and take notes on it. (See link below--displayed on the PPT). Use your notes from the Huey P Long article and from the notes you took while viewing the video. Your slide must have 3 facts from the article and/or video. Two of these facts must be true and one must be a lie. Add each of your names at the bottom of the PPT slide, so that we will know who created it. (8.2.7) Description of Formative Performance Task: You will… -identify and record the “Lie” in each “Two Truths and a Lie” PPT slide created by your peers Steps: 1) With your shoulder partner, view all “Two Truths and a Lie” PPT slides created by your peers. 2) As you view each “Two Truths and a Lie” PPT, use your lined paper to record the names of the students who created the “Two Truths and a Lie” PPT slide. On the lined paper next to the students’ names, record the “lie” you found. 3) If you read an interesting “truth” that is not in your notes, you may add it to your notes. 4) Share your results in Padlet. (8.2.7) Description of Formative Performance Task: You will… -Use notes to write a paragraph about what you have learned from the article and video. -Partner will video you reading your paragraph. -Download your video to the class PPT slide show Steps: Use your notes from the article and from the video to write a paragraph about what you have learned. Your paragraph must have at least 5 complete sentences. Your paragraph must address and answer the question “How did the Great Depression affect citizens of Louisiana? ” (It must restate the question, answer the question, and give evidence to support your answer. Your answer must include at least one piece of information about Huey P Long during the Great Depression.) Edit your paragraph and have your partner proof read it. 4) Your partner will video you reading your paragraph. (Both partners must be videoed reading the paragraph they created.) 5) Download your videos from the iPAD to the class PPT slide show 6) Whole class will view the videos created by their peers. 7) Class Discussion and Debate sessions will be conducted using PPT videos that were made in another class.
