To do this you will: To consider the qualities necessary for good leadership To identify them in people we see in the media Compare them with the needs of the Jewish people at the time of Jesus

Look at the pictures of the following people…. Which of them are good leaders? Which of them are ‘bad’ leaders? What qualities can you identify that make you think that?

Look at the pictures of the following people…. Which of them are good leaders? Which of them are ‘bad’ leaders? What qualities can you identify that make you think that? Extension: Which is the best leader of them all and why?

Task 1: Create a leader Use your discussions to create a job advert for a ‘leader’ You decide what they will be the leader of Write a description of the kind of person who should apply for the job.

Assessment for Learning Who fits the bill? Assessment for Learning AFL Feed back your leader descriptions to the class Can you think of anyone who may fit the bill? They could be famous or just someone you know.

Are the Jews right? Discuss whether you think the Jews had a point or not? HW – Prepare a 2 minute speech/presentation that identifies Jesus as a leader/Messiah You will need to include: What the Jews expected from their Messiah Why they didn’t think that this was Jesus Why we as Christians think that he was! This will form the assessment for this topic! It will be delivered two weeks from now.

Leadership 3 Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you should be able to understand how Christians interpret some of Jesus’ actions in line with Messiahnic expectations To do this you will: Match up events in Jesus’ life with qualities of the Messiah Describe and explain how Jesus is the Messiah

Quick Quiz Without looking, who can name all the qualities identified in last lesson? EXT: Who can match them with biblical evidence?

Christian Understanding The Messiah Christian Understanding Discussion: How does Jesus fit the profile for the Jewish understanding of Messiah? a warrior king a judge a just and powerful ruler Jewish Ideas about the Messiah bringer of peace anointed by God a royal person he will restore the Kingdom of Israel Look again at these qualities Are there any that Jesus did meet? Think outside the box, he may have met them in a non obvious way….? 16

Give yourself a mark out of 8 – be truthful and realistic Self Assessment (SA) One point, not explained One point, explained well Two points, one not explained Two points explained well Three points, one not explained Three points, well explained Four points, one not explained Four points, well explained 1 mark 2 marks 3 marks 4 marks 5 marks 6 marks 7 marks 8 marks Give yourself a constructive comment identifying what you have done well and how to improve Give yourself a mark out of 8 – be truthful and realistic

Leadership 4 Learning Outcomes By the end of this lesson you should be able to consider why Jesus did not want people to know that he was the messiah To do this you will: Compare Jesus with Batman! Consider the implications of Jesus announcing who he was too early!

Starter: Click the batman symbol to watch a clip Think and talk: In what way is Jesus like Batman?

Misunderstandings T.P.S. Why do you think Jesus didn’t want people to know that he was the Messiah? Jesus would not want people to know he was the messiah because: Not treat him right Ask him for special favours Expect wrong things from him People wouldn’t understand Self Assessment SA

The disciples misunderstood all the time! DUH! Read the following passages: Mark 10:35-45 - The Best Seats Mark 9:33-37 – Who’s the greatest? Matthew 16:21-26 – Peter doesn’t understand Acts 1:6 – After the Resurrection For each passage, answer these questions: What is the misunderstanding? How does Jesus help them to understand? What is Jesus’ message about himself?

Bring it all together Self Assessment SA Compare and contrast ideas that people have about Jesus being the Messiah Level 4 – State what qualities people expected the Messiah to have Level 5 – Explain, using some evidence how Jesus could be seen as the Messiah Level 6 – Compare the Jewish and Christian understanding of the Messiah stating how Jesus doesn’t obviously meet the Jewish expectations Level 7 – Evaluate how even though Jesus’ Messiahship was not easily identified by the Jews, he does meet the criteria in different ways.

Use it to Prove it HW Reminder: Presentations to be delivered next lesson! Use the task you have just completed to write/check your presentation.
