The book of ezra Backround As promised by Jeremiah the Jews go off into captivity in Babylon for 70 years. The story in Ezra picks up where 2 Chron. leaves off. The theme of Ezra is the restoration of worship, their spiritual lives, and the temple. The book covers about 78 years (536 B.C. to 458 B.C.) 2 Main Divisions of the book: ch. 1-6 the 1st group with Zerubbabel begins work on the altar and temple. Ezra leads the 2nd group 58 years after the completion of the temple and restores the people spiritually.
