Infographic Assignment Your goal: You’ve done a lot of research and analysis of Wit and Doubt and worked with that information in several comfortable and traditional ways. You’ve taken tests, had discussions, and written a researched literary analysis. Now you will work with that information in a new and challenging way. You’ll create an infographic. To do this you’ll have to think about all the information you know in ways you have not thought about it yet. You’ll need to simplify it to it’s most basic but important form and then think about it visually and symbolically. You’ll have to create something that’s never existed before – a visual image of the information contained in your research paper, our discussions, and your study guide questions. You don’t have to be an artist to accomplish this.

What is this graphic about? How do you know?

There are some basic rules for making infographics There are some basic rules for making infographics. We’ll focus on four of them for this assignment. Be concise Be visual Be nice Be creative

Rule #1: Be Concise Is this info graphic concise? Design your infographic to convey one idea really well…in this case your idea is your thesis statement. You entire graphic should support your thesis statement, using the information you gathered from you primary and secondary sources. You can include information not included in your paper but don’t lose sight of the point…it’s your thesis that is the focus.

Is this inforgraphic concise?

What about this one?

Rule #2 Be Visual Is this infographic visual? Everyone should be able to understand the overall theme of the infographic at a quick glance. They can look closer and discover new details not readily visible from first glance but over all the visual image of the graphic should be a part of the information.

What about this one?

This one?

Rule #3: Be Nice. AKA Don’t make your reader work too hard Rule #3: Be Nice. AKA Don’t make your reader work too hard. Are you working too hard? Build your data into the infographic, don’t make the reader have to work too hard to understand what they are seeing. You’re infographic should not need a legend to be understandable.

How about now?

And….now?

Rule #4: Be Creative Creative or not? Use whatever you have available to create your infographic. You may use your computer or create it by hand but it should be eye catching.

Creative?

Last one….Creative?

Think this is impossible. People make info graphics about ANYTHING Think this is impossible? People make info graphics about ANYTHING. Like this one….
