Presentation transcript:

Senior Project Presentation A general guideline

Introduction and Interest Grabber Introduce yourself to the judges Tell a CLEAN joke, or make a tasteful funny…. Share an alarming statistic Reveal a little known fact https://www.americanexpress.com/us/small-business/openforum/articles/hook-presentation-audience-30-seconds/ 30 seconds max.

Topic Details What is your topic? Explain why you chose it. What is your research paper about? What is your product? What is the connection between the two? Make an emotional tie Get the judges to want you to succeed 2-3 minutes

Research and Product A few good, strong details from your research that are not common knowledge It is important to explain, in detail, the stages of development of your product. ***Procrastination is not an obstacle!! 3-4 minutes…at least. This is the most important aspect of your speech. The judges most look forward to hearing about your product and its process. Never put this many words on your slides. You should not have more than 7 lines of text. Less is More….

Mentor Who is he/she? Why (but not how) did you choose this person? What qualifications does this person have? What makes them an expert? 30 seconds to 1 minute

Reflection About the topic… About yourself… Senior Project/Real World Application Keep it positive 1 minute

Manners and Questions Conclude your presentation without using the words “conclude” or “conclusion.” Offer the judges a chance to ask you questions (they will ask anyway). This shows you are complete. Thank the judges for time and attention after the question and answer session.

Pointers Consider using alternates to powerpoint…photostory, prezi, etc. Have visual aid in multiple formats. SAVE. SAVE OFTEN. SAVE IN MORE THAN ONE PLACE. USE THE SAVE BUTTON. Check room earlier than the day before presentation. You will not be using notecards during your speech.

Dress Code-Gentlemen: NO Jewelry- no earrings or visible piercings. Watch is fine. Men: “No Shave November” does not apply to you. You will shave. Beards and ‘staches are okay, but you will shave neck. Pressed shirts and slacks, tie. Socks should match your pants or shoes- no white socks. A sportcoat or suit jacket would be awesome! Wear an undershirt if your dress shirt is thin. Wear a belt, with your pants at your waist.

Ladies- Dress Code: No see-through blouses, NO too tight garments, NO LOW CUT TOPS-EVER! Skirts should be at the knee. Tasteful accessories-small simple (boring) jewelry. Do not over do it by wearing too many pieces. One or two will do. Do not wear heels that are extremely high. Platforms are NOT professional. Three-inch heel limit. No open-toed shoes of any kind (no sandals ir strappy shoes). Wear light makeup- do not overemphasize all of your features at once- you are not going to the club…. No pencil skirts or lycra/spandex (fitted) dresses.

Ladies AND Gentlemen: Neatly trimmed hair and nails- no dirty hands. DO NOT WEAR TONS of cologne. Do not wear dark pants or skirt and light shoes. Do not wear colors that are too bright. Do not wear too many colors- do not wear more than 3 different colors (some exceptions). Ladies may wish to rethink animal prints in large quantities.

PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE You are not professional speakers, so PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH. MEMORIZE AS MUCH OF YOUR SPEECH AS POSSIBLE. AND WHEN ALL ELSE FAILS, PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH!

Dress in “Interview” Attire
