Adjunct Faculty, Researcher ANNELIESE’S PERSONA Name: Sonia Raymond User Type: Adjunct Faculty, Researcher Quote: I need information about evaluating publishers and my own work, but I don’t know where I can find guidance at UCSF This user needs help with Publishing/Open Access, but is overwhelmed by the plurality of information spread around UCSF. They’re unlikely to have time to attend a workshop; they need focused, easy-to-digest information to help themselves. Goals & Needs Obstacles & Pain Points Opportunities An Open Access publisher/journal I’ve never heard of asked me to submit an article. I need help assessing their offer. Where is the information on the site that will help me? Terms used on the website are opaque … I don’t know where to look for what I need There’s too much text on the page to absorb. Can someone help me? The site should use terms that match how academics talk about this issue, and use concise language that flows easily The site should provide an email address (or contact form) and telephone number for specialized help I need to pull together information about my publication history, my citation counts, and H-index. It’s just too hard to find this information on the Library website Information on the site is out of date The terms used on the site don’t match this users search terms There are too many measures: Sonia needs help understanding them We need to update our Measuring Scholarly Impact content We should use a variety of terms so that all searches will land the user on the right page We should provide a curated list of helpful resources to address specific needs, and concise overviews of how to use them Borrowing account? No Most-used library Parnassus PC Laptop Firefox Most-used tech I’ve never published an article before. How do I decide where to submit my article? We have how-to-publish information in many places around UCSF … mostly in career services spaces like the Office of Career and Professional Development, but they require that you take a class. Sonia doesn’t have that kind of time The Library can pull this information together in a LibGuide We can collaborate with OCPD so that we complement each others’ offerings We can co-sponsor events with OCPD We can provide writing skills information/links to resources/examples Parnassus Campus Interest in in-person events & help None Very Into It
