“Spoons” (With some adaptations) 1. Choose one person to be the dealer “Spoons” (With some adaptations) 1. Choose one person to be the dealer. They should give everyone at the lab table (including themselves) 4 cards. You may look at your cards, but do not show them to anyone else. Place one less spoon than the total number of lab group members in the center of the table. 2. The goal of the game is to get four of a kind. Once you have 4 of a kind in your hand, take one spoon from the center of the table. 3. The dealer will draw one card at a time from the deck, look at it, and then pass it on. They may trade the card with one in their hand if it contributes to getting four of a kind. Rotate dealers every round. 4. Once one person had obtained 4 of a kind and taken a spoon, anyone else can take a spoon. Whoever is left without a spoon gets a letter (‘S’). 5. If you spell SPOON with your losses, you are out.

Guidelines Ms. J will give you your adaptation. After receiving your ‘adaptation,’ go back to your table.  Share your adaptation with the group.    Notes: 1. If someone gets their hand on the spoon before you do, they get to keep the spoon.  Do not wrestle it out of their hand. Be kind. 2.  If you are uncomfortable with any of the adaptations, please inform the teacher before the game begins.

Spoons reflection p. 21 What adaptation(s) were adventitious (helpful)? What adaptation(s) were detrimental (harmful)? What was your adaptation? What did you do to survive in the game? Were you thankful for having the adaptation you had? Why or why not?

Reflection Was your adaptation for spoons an advantage or disadvantage?
