Objectives and Agenda IB 1.2 Uncertainties and Errors Determine the error present in graphs Agenda for IB 1.2 Uncertainties and errors Homework Review of 1.2 Practice Worksheet. Graph Errors Overview and Practice Graphing Lab activity start

1.2 Error analysis Homework p2-4 Data Processing 1) 2.2 m 2) 0.57 +/- 0.02 g 3) a) 4.47 m/s b) 0.2108 c) +/- 0.2 m/s d) 4.5 m/s e) 4.5 +/- 0.2 m/s Error Propagation 1) 2.80 x 103 +/- 30 cm2 2) 61.2 +/- 0.2 mL 3) 0.49 +/- 0.02 m/s 4) 121 +/- 4 cm2 5) 0.334 +/- 0.004 m Error Propagation 6) 42 +/- 5 s 7) 37 +/- 3 cm2 8) 19 +/- 2 m/s 9) 18 +/- 2 cm2 OR 18.1 +/- 1.5 cm2 10) 3400 +/- 100 Ω OR 3410 +/- 150 Ω

Graphing Error Analysis Overview Read the y-intercepts off the graph or calculate them from the points on each line using algebra. Find the (max – min)/2 for slope to determine the uncertainty in the best fit slope. Find the (max – min)/2 for the intercepts to determine the uncertainty in the best fit intercept. Write summary equation with uncertainties. Determine the percent error, if appropriate. Decide on IV and DV variables. Title the graph and the two axes. Decide on scales for both axes. Plot points. Draw error bars for extreme points (or all) Draw min, max and best fit lines. Find two points on each line. Use algebra to find slope of each line https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkp6nHoS_p4 Animation of the process and practice

Exit Slip - Assignment For Error Propagation, identify the type of uncertainty you add for… 1) Adding and subtracting 2) Multiplying and Dividing 3) How do you handle Powers and Roots?
