Conformity: Choosing Which Examples to Follow Human beings tend to conform. For the Christian, it is important to make conscious decisions about the people we want to be like, rather than just drifting into conformity with the people of the world around us.

Conformity is Human Nature People Are Like Sheep. They FOLLOW! (John 10)

It Takes Effort to Avoid Being “Conformed to this World” Conforming to the world comes easily and naturally to most people. (Eph. 2:1-3) It requires attention and effort to overcome this natural tendency (Romans 12:2; 1 Peter 1:14) The Israelites serve as an example of failing to resist conforming to the world. The Lord warned them not to conform (Deut. 12:29f.) They didn’t listen to the warning (2 Kings 17:15) They not only became like the idolaters, they became like the idols! (Psalm 135:14-18)

Choosing Good Examples to Follow Christ is our ultimate example. (1 Peter 2:21; Revelation 14:4) But we need to note those around us who are worthy of imitation and strive to be like them. (Philippians 3:17; 2 Thessalonians 3:7; Hebrews 13:7; 2 John 9-12)

3 John 11 “Beloved, do not imitate what is evil, but what is good. He who does good is of God, but he who does evil has not seen God.” Be careful whom you choose to imitate; it will make all the difference in this world and the world to come.
