D58 Follow The Energy

D58 Follow Energy Background Since energy is never created or destroyed, we can follow energy as it transforms (changes). If you follow energy transformations back far enough you will find most energy on Earth can be traced all the way back to the Sun. The Sun’s electromagnetic energy (light) is made from nuclear reactions at its center. When it reaches Earth, the Sun’s energy changes into many types of energy that sustain life.

D58 Follow The Energy Data Table (copy with Name/Hour/Date/Title) EVENT NUMBER ENERGY BEFORE ENERGY AFTER DESCRIBE TRANSFORMATION 1 2 … up to 16

D58 Follow Energy Procedure Look at the textbook data table on page D31 that describes different types of energy. With your group examine the 16 Energy Event cards and compare them to that data table. Choose Energy Event card #1 & identify all the energy types in the transformation shown. Use the “Follow The Energy” worksheet to record the energy types before and after the transformation.

D58 Follow Energy Procedure 4. In the last column of the worksheet write two sentences describing the energy transformation shown on the Energy Event card. Include all the energy types that you listed. 5. Repeat steps for the other Energy Event cards. 6. When done turn in all 16 of the Energy Event cards and turn in your paper.
