Chapter 2 ELBOW

MEDIAL OLECRANON IND: Ulnar nerve paresthesia, wrist or elbow trauma, medial elbow pain, triceps dyskinesia, decreased olecranon to medial epicondyle distance, restricted lateral olecranon joint motion. PP: Supine. DP: On affected side facing superiorly. CH: Inside hand makes thenar contact on medial olecranon. IH: Contacts posterior portion of wrist. LOC: Medial to lateral.

MEDIAL OLECRANON MOD: The elbow is flexed and brought medially into extension, the thrust is given medial to lateral. DM: 1. Lateral Triceps 2. Medial Triceps

LATERAL OLECRANON IND: Elbow or wrist trauma, lateral elbow pain, triceps dyskinesia, decreased olecranon to lateral epicondyle distance, restricted midial olecranon motion. PP: Prone. DP: On affected side facing inferiorly. CH: lateral olecranon with a soft pisiform contact. IH: At the wrist to deliver pronation. LOC: Lateral to medial.

LATERAL OLECRANON MOD: Lateral to medial thrust with extension at the elbow and pronation at the wrist. DM: 1. Medial Triceps 2. Lateral Triceps

ANTERIOR OLECRANON IND: Hyperextension trauma to elbow, joint pain, restricted posterior olecranon motion. PP: Sitting, elbow is in flexion. DP: Standing on affected side facing the patient. CH: Distal radius and ulna. IH: Placed in antecubital fossa (used as a fulcrum). LOC: Toward patient's shoulder. MOD: Thrust toward patient's shoulder, the elbow is thrust into flexion using the I.H. as a fulcrum.

ANTERIOR OLECRANON DM: 1. Biceps Brachii 2. Brachialis 3. Brachioradialis 4. Triceps

POSTERIOR OLECRANON IND: Elbow or wrist trauma, flexion injuruy, epicondyle and bursae tenderness, triceps dyskinesia, restricted anterior olecranon motion. PP: Sitting. DP: Standing in front and facing patient. CH: Distal radius and ulna. IH: Stabilizes the epicondyles. LOC: Posterior to anterior. MOD: The elbow is thrust into extension.

POSTERIOR OLECRANON DM : 1. Triceps 2. Biceps

SUPERIOR ULNA IND: Elbow or wrist trauma, fall injury where the victim catches oneself with the outstretched hands and jams the elbow. PP: Kneeling at side of table with elbow placed upon talbe. DP: Sitting on opposite side of table from patient. CH: Distal ulna. IH: Stabilizes the humerus. LOC: Toward the Dr. MOD: Traction and thrust.

SUPERIOR ULNA DM: 1. Triceps 2. Wrist flexors and extensors

POSTERIOR-MEDIAL RADIAL HEAD IND: Tennis elbow, elbow or wrist trauma, lateral elbow pain, restricted anteriorlateral radial head motion. PP: Sitting. DP: Side of involvement. CH: Medial aspect of the radial head with a thumb contact. IH: At the wrist to deliver supination. LOC: Medial to lateral.

POSTERIOR-MEDIAL RADIAL HEAD MOD: Medial to lateral thrust with supination at the wrist. DM: 1. Pronator Quadratus 2. Biceps Brachii 3. Brachioradialis 4. Wrist Extensors 5. Supinator.
