Vocabulary Journal #5 Community – a social, religious, occupational, or other group sharing common characteristics or interests and perceived or perceiving itself as distinct in some respect from the larger society within which it exists Race/ethnicity Nationality Sport Citizenship Age Hobby Gender Neighborhood Club Sexual Orientation Job/profession ? Neighborhood School

Get out a piece of paper and make the following.. Your name Community

For each Community circle.. What makes that community ? What are some common characteristics? (behaviors, etc.) What does the community offer them? Do you belong to this community by choice? Why did you choose it? What is your role in the community ? What do you bring to the community? What is your part? What are you expected to do?

Being Part of A Community Is A Two-Way Street (remember rights and responsibilities?) What you wrote on the left is what you get form the community and what you wrote on the right is what you give. Get into a group (3-4) Select one of your communities. Analyze the benefits and responsibilities of the selected community. Hand in one paper per group! Community Benefits Responsibilities
