Biomes Topic 4 Statements: K & L

What is a Biome? Region inhabited by certain types of plants and animals Each has specific Temperature Ranges Each has specific Rain Fall amounts

Similarity in Biomes Convergence: similar characteristics of plants and animals living in the same biomes in different parts of world. This is because they are adapting to similar climatic and environmental pressures.

Rainforest Latitudes: 0o – 23.5oN & S High Diversity High Productivity

Desert Latitudes: 30o N & S Low Diversity Low Productivity

Prairies and Savannas (Grasslands) Latitudes: 15-30oS Medium to Low Diversity Medium Productivity Prairies: Latitudes: 30o – 50oN Medium to Low Diversity Medium Productivity

Deciduous Temperate Forest Latitudes: 25o –50oN & S High Diversity High Productivity

Taiga Latitudes: 50o – 60oN Low Diversity Low Productivity

Tundra Latitudes: Above 60oN Low Diversity Low Productivity
