If you’ve already done a CBC through the Council you do not need to do it again. If you did with another org/institution you do. If you don’t know, check the student portal – show portal—ask Eric to get up test student. 3) Must schedule by April 12, 2010 – bring form to 505 E. Green and speak to Donna/Kim to schedule appointment – must do it in person.

Endorsements Requirements are listed in our website Middle grade endorsements (grades 5-8) Content specific Typically 18 hours in subject Exceptions: Math/ESL/Bilingual Recommend at least two Bilingual/ESL (CI/DEIL) State needs: math, science, foreign language, ESL, bilingual

Endorsements (continued) Must take Middle Grade Coursework CI 410, EPS 427, EPSY 430 Online through UI (Summers) Other institutions (link on CoTE website) Most students take between junior/senior year Can delay certification and take summer after graduation

Endorsements (continued) Social Science built in (If MG courses are taken) Close in General Science (14-18) Close in Language Arts (13-20) English, Journalism, Speech, Creative Writing, BTW Something outside of these areas should check with Council Area of Concentration gives you a start Can use Gen Ed courses if they apply

Endorsements (continued) Foreign language K-4, 5-8: 18 hours 9-12: 20 hours minimum + pass content test + pass APT for 6-12 (in addition to K-9) or K-12 Recommend passing content test for any foreign language endorsement (for “Highly Qualified” Status)

Testing Had to pass Basic skills or TAP to be admitted. No tests taken first year of program Elementary/Middle Grade Must take/pass prior to student teaching (state law) APT Grades K-9 Typically taken during student teaching semester or on the same day as content (more convenient and saves $).

New ISBE Rules No professional education or content course with a grade lower than a ‘C’ may be used toward certification, endorsement, or approval No professional education or content course taken for CR/NC may be used toward certification, endorsement or approval Proficiency credit may not be used toward certification, endorsement or approval AP credit MAY be used

Handout/Reminder Criminal Background Checks are being done on April 24 & 25 from 9 a.m. – noon and 12:30– 5 p.m. First come first serve. Be prepared to wait. Currently $52 (cash, Visa, MasterCard, or money order) (Check student portal if already taken to see if we have results – CBC date cleared). ORI/Fingerprint Form (handout) Must fill out/present when you have fingerprints done Can also be done at Accurate Biometric locations (sites are on our website). If you don’t hear that you are cleared within three weeks, contact us.
