New Deal

Herbert Hoover His response to the depression was a hands off approach, let the free market fix the economy. Laissez faire: no government influence in the economy, let capitalism do its thing! Hoovervilles: popular name for shanty towns built by homeless people during the depression.

FDR had a much different philosophy… The New Deal A series of government programs and increased spending aimed at getting the economy back on track.

The 3 R’s Relief: To provide temporary support to suffering people or groups. Recovery: Designed to help the economy bounce back from the depression. Reform: Target problems to fix to prevent any future economic crisis. Go to each corner of the room and write down which R each program represents.
