Managing Tourism

Control Spatial Zoning. Spatial concentration. Dispersal of tourists. Restrictive entry or pricing.

Management Spatial zoning defines areas of land that have different suitabilities of capacities for tourists. Honeypot sites are commonly provided. These are locations that attract tourists by virtue of their promotion and provision of information, refreshment and parking, and then prevent further penetration of tourists into more fragile environments. The Grand Canyon is a good example

Management Elsewhere, restrictions on tourists may be achieved through pricing. In the USA, National Parks charge an entry fee; whereas in the UK, entry to National Parlks is free.

Activity Using Advanced Geography P426-427, answer the following… What is a “honeypot” and what does it mean? Why can Lulworth Cove be described as a “honeypot”? How have the impacts of tourism been managed in this area and how successful are these methods?
