Introduction to D&T Starter Name three tools needed to create a finger joint Sum up how you create a finger joint What is the difference between a tenon saw and a coping saw Name another type of wood joint. Where can finger joints be used?

Introduction to D&T Aim: Students will complete the finger joint and nail the joints together. Foundation knowledge on how to create a dovetail joint Objectives: Run through how to finish the finger joints Students complete the finger joint Storyboard creation on how to create a dovetail joint

How to cut the Tail

Introduction to D&T The ‘DOVETAIL JOINT’ is very strong because of the way the ‘tails’ and ‘pins’ are shaped. This makes it difficult to pull the joint apart and virtually impossible when glue is added. This type of joint is used in box constructions such as draws, jewellery boxes, cabinets and other pieces of furniture where strength is required. It is a difficult joint which requires practice. There are different types of dovetail joint and when cut accurately they are very impressive and attractive.
