Act 1 in Animation BBC Shakespeare Animated Tales - Macbeth

Let’s Break it Down, Shall We? What has happened so far? What do we know about Macbeth? What is the dramatic irony of the witches prediction at the beginning of this act? dramatic irony, in literature, a plot device in which the audience’s or reader’s knowledge of events or individuals surpasses that of the characters. To whom does King Duncan give the title Thane of Cumberland?

The Break Down Continues What does Macbeth think about Duncan’s decision? What is the meaning of Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy? What is she saying in layman’s terms? In scene 6, there is another instance of dramatic irony. What is it?

The Murder Plot In Scene 7, Macbeth argues with himself about whether to kill King Duncan or not (soliloquy). What reasons does he have for not going through with it? How does Lady Macbeth convince her husband to kill Duncan? What tragic flaw does she draw upon in her argument?

Tips for the Assignment Stay grounded in the text Pull words and phrases from the play to support your responses Cite the lines with (Act 1, Scene ?, line ?). In-text citations go at the end of the sentence. Punctuation goes inside the quotations marks when appropriate Read your responses out loud as a proofreading tool Double check that you have responded to the best of your ability to every question and/or prompt Use MLA format Double space for ease of marking Copy the rubric into your document Save as a word doc or pdf so I can mark it up in text
