The Ball and the Box Remember: A preposition generally shows proximity, time, or place. In class, we did the “Ball and the Box” routine. The ball is above the box. Above is the preposition in the sentence.

Where are the prepositional phrases Prepositional phrases can come at any point in the sentence. Under the porch, the dog was growling loudly. The dog was growling loudly under the porch.

How to tell the difference? Adverbial phrases Describe a verb, adverb, or an adjective. Prepositional phrases Show proximity, location, time, and links two objects.
