Your story… Think back to how you got involved in education as a professional. Take 2 minutes each to tell a shoulder-mate the story of why you chose this profession.

Dreams for your students… In 1 – 2 sentences, write a description of what you hope all students will know and be able to do by the time they are 21 years old.

So, what do your leaders say? Do the people who have authority in your building or the people who are the loudest voices believe the same? Are you running the same race?

Invisible leaders… Who are some people in your building/community who could be developed into leaders who could have a positive impact on your school?

Professional Development Do you feel you have the skills to eliminate the achievement gap in your district/school? What kinds of professional development do you think you’ll need to be most effective?

Professional Development Make a list of professional development opportunities you have taken advantage of this year. Which ones were worth your time? Which were not?

How are you taking care of yourself? List some ways that you take care of yourself on a weekly basis. Remember, you can only give what you have received.

Social/emotional support Share some ways that adults in your building are supported/encouraged in your building…

Your students Describe the needs of the students in your buildings… What are the 3 greatest needs in your building?

Students as whole people As a table, break the students’ needs into academic and social/emotional. How are you meeting these needs in your building? What’s missing?

Your building In what ways are you providing for the greatest needs in your school? Share with your table partners.

Thinking outside the box How can you engage those outside the school community in meeting the needs of your students?

Community/Family partnerships Write a definition for community/family partnerships in contrast to community/family engagement. Who are all the stakeholders in this endeavor?

Policies and procedures What are the 3 most important policies or procedures in your building?

Policies and procedures What policies and procedures exist in your building that may prevent some of your students from experiencing success?

Data collection Are you collecting data? What kind of data? What are you doing with it?

Can you really make a difference? Can this nation… our children afford for you not to make a difference?
