Multiversidad Latinoamericana. English IV “Relative pronouns” Campus: Durango. Semester: 4 Profesor: Silvestre Jonattan Rivas Terrones Objective: Students will learn what are the relative pronouns and in which cases they’ll use certain relative pronoun. june the 01st, 2015

Concept. We use relative pronouns to refer to a noun (person or thing) mentioned before and which we want to add some information about or to modify. Relative pronouns can refer to a noun in a singular or plural way. Some of them can be used only to refer people, others with things and some of them with both.

Relative pronouns chart Pronombre Español Persona Cosa That que X Which que/cual   Who que/quién Whom que, a quien Whose cuyo

Grammar rules. "That" Is the most used in the spoken english because it can be used to refer either people or things. It substitutes "which", "who" or "whom" in the clauses that define the noun. Example. This is the book that won the Pulitzer prize last year. "Which" This relative pronoun can be used only iwth things. Example: The house in which we lived in when we were children burnt down last week.

“Who“ This relative rponoun can be used only with people “Who“ This relative rponoun can be used only with people. Example: I never met someone who didn't like music. "Whom“ It is used to refer the indirect object of the verb, but it is not used very often in the coloquial english. It is more common tyo use “who”. Example: The woman with whom I was talking was my cousin. “Whose” We use this relative pronoun to indicate possession either for an object or people. Example: That is the girl whose parents got divorced last year.
