Mission Earth First! was named in 1979 in response to a lethargic, compromising, and increasingly corporate environmental community. Earth First! takes a decidedly different tack towards environmental issues. We believe in using all the tools in the tool box, ranging from grassroots organizing and involvement in the legal process to civil disobedience and monkey wrenching.

Success? The success of Earth First! is in the education of participants and the ability of the movement to interface with other similar organizations. As a movement and not an organization Earth First! has a difficult time being wholly successful in its endeavors. The movement is successful however in its stated mission, to take action in defense of the Earth.
