Reminders Garrisonville Elementary Mrs. Aikens’ Class February 2017 Academics Reminders In Language Arts, we will be working on identifying important information from a text and creating a summary. We will continue to read both fiction and nonfiction texts and apply all of our reading skills and strategies. We will continue word analysis skills through the study of prefixes, roots, suffixes, and word meaning!   In Math, we will continue to work on mastering our multiplication and division while we explore the concepts of measurement. We will also continue to strengthen our problem solving skills by solving single and multistep word problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. In Virginia Studies, we are exploring the history and economy of Colonial Virginia. A study guide is going home today. Next week, we will start our unit on American Revolution. In Science, we will review the scientific Method. Students will need to complete an at home science Experiment by last week in February. *Jump Rope for Heart flyers went home Friday *Science project is due Feb. 28 Websites Virginia Trekkers First in Math  *This is a great way to practice multiplication math facts!! Important Dates 2/10: Sweetheart Dance @ 7:00 p.m. 2/20: President’s Day (no school) 2/28: Early Release (elementary only) Valentines Day Celebration We will be having a Valentine’s Day Exchange on Friday, February 14th. Student’s will be able to pass out Valentines to the class. When bringing in Valentines, students must have a valentine for everyone in the class. On the back is a list of the first names of everyone in our class!
