Be Mindful Philippians 4:8-9

You are what you eat. You are what you tweet (or what you post on Facebook). You are what you give. You are what you think.

Jim Nelson

Be Mindful   Think! (v. 8) Thinking precedes doing. (v. 9)

DISCUSSION GUIDE 1. Paul encourages the believers in Philippi to think about eight things. What are they? (Philippians 4:8) Paul encourages the believers to concentrate on things that are: True. Noble. Right. Pure. Lovely. Admirable. Excellent. Praiseworthy.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 2. Make a list of specific thoughts that would correspond to each of these characteristics.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 3. If you asked Paul, “What do you mean when you say ‘think about these things?’” how do you imagine that he would respond?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 4. If you decided to concentrate on these characteristics what would you need to do?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 5. What usually occupies your thoughts? How would you describe your thought life?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 6. How are you doing in the discipline of spending time alone with God?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 7. What should the Philippian believers put into practice? Paul says that the believers should put into practice everything that they have: Learned from Paul. Received from Paul. Heard from Paul. Observed Paul doing.

DISCUSSION GUIDE 8. What comes first, thinking or doing?

DISCUSSION GUIDE 9. How does thinking about good things help us do good things?

T – Is it true? H – Is it helpful? I – Is it inspiring? N – Is it necessary? K – Is it kind?
