accomplishment Meaning: something done, achieved, or accomplished successfully. : the successful completion of something Example: It will be a great accomplishment to walk down the aisle in June to get your diploma.

engineer Someone whose job it is to design or build machines, bridges, roads, etc. The engineer was planning how to build a robot.

innovative (adjective) Meaning: completely new Examples: The scientist has an innovative idea to solve the problem of air pollution. Using a pair of socks as mittens is an innovative notion; I am surprised by your creativity.

obstacle Something blocking the way that makes it difficult to achieve something. Example: “There were many obstacles in achieving my degree due to the fact that I was homeless.” Khadija

functional Working correctly, useful. The sharpener was not functional because every time I tried to sharpen my pencil, it would get stuck.

corporation (noun) Examples: Meaning: a company or other business group Examples: When I graduate from college I want to work for a corporation that cares about its employees. A company that produces cars, trucks, and motorcycles is an ___________________ corporation; BMW is one example. corporation (noun)

motivate (verb) Meaning: to encourage to do something; to inspire Examples: The fans’ cheering and loyal support motivate our basketball team to play hard and win games. A devoted teacher will motivate his or her students to do their best work every day. motivate (verb)

overall (adjective) Examples: Meaning: in all; including everything Examples: Julia wrote the funniest essay, but the overall winner of the writing contest was Mario. Though Justin’s grade in math is not very good, his overall grade average is still an impressive 3.2, a strong B+. overall (adjective)

engineer (noun) Examples: Meaning: a professional trained to use math and science skills to design machines and buildings Examples: I would like to be an engineer so I can design vehicles that run on water instead of gasoline. The engineer who designed the Golden Gate bridge must have been very smart. engineer (noun)

sponsor (verb) Examples: Meaning: to help and support, often in an official and/or financial way Examples: The local Dillon’s grocery store will sponsor the youth football league this year. As a concerned citizen, I often sponsor young people in my community for service projects and fundraisers. sponsor (verb)

coordinate (verb) Examples: Meaning: to move or work together smoothly and easily Examples: All the dancers must coordinate their movements so that we turn at the same time. The players on the basketball court must coordinate their efforts in order to execute the plays. coordinate (verb)
