Constructing Your Bridge
Step 1 Locate the 2 pieces of cardboard, wax paper, masking tape, and your drawing.
Step 2 Tape your drawings down to the cardboard
Step 3 Put wax paper over the top of the drawing:
Step 4 Measure and cut the “Roadbed” stick: *Cut the stick slightly longer than the roadbed. *When using the “T” pins do not put them through the sticks. Put them over the top as shown. *Don’t put pins where two sticks will meet.
Step 5 Put a small amount of glue on your wax paper Step 5 Put a small amount of glue on your wax paper. Determine a strategy for the order in assembling the elements. The road bed is the first to be put down. It is a good idea to build the outline of the structure next, however different designs call for different strategies.
Assembly Strategy: Follow the order the following design would be built:
Miter cuts can be achieved by placing one stick over another and drawing a line tangent to the first sticks side.
It’s a saw- not an axe- Saw don’t chop!!!! Place your finger or thumb near the cut line to secure the stick down onto the cutting block. Don’t push down with the saw- just move it back and forth across the stick to make a cut. Cut outside your line!
Dip the end of the stick into your glue and pin down the stick in the proper place as shown.
A good miter cut will leave no gap at the glue joint!
At Clean-up time, locate the locker below your table with your hour on it to store your bridge. Straighten up your kit and put away your kit and supplies. Do not leave the room until your table has been dismissed.
