Year 4 Residential 3rd – 5th July, 2019 Hooke Court, Dorset

Why choose a residential trip? It provides opportunities, benefits and impacts that cannot be achieved in any other context or setting. 

Improves students’ engagement with learning Improves students’ knowledge, skills and understanding In long-term follow-up studies, 82 per cent of KS2 pupils said that the teachers and lessons during residentials helped them to engage in their leaning and therefore have deeper understanding. Fosters deeper relationships between peers and between students and teachers Improves students’ resilience, self-confidence and wellbeing 78 per cent of KS2 pupils felt more confident to try new things they would not have done before the residential. Improves and boosts cohesion and a sense of belonging

How will the children travel to Hooke Court? Leave school by coach at approximately 9.15am on Wednesday 3rd July. Stop at Charmouth for fossil hunting. Arrive at Hooke Court for our river study!

What will be the sleeping arrangements? Children will be sleeping in single sex dormitories of 4 to 8 Children will be able to nominate 5 children who they would like to share with We will ensure they are with at least one of their choices

What activities will the children be taking part in? During the visit, the children will take part in a variety of activities linked to our Coastal Explorers topic. For example: Walk at Lulworth Cove and studying the geology of the area Coastal defence work at West Bay A day out at Lyme Regis including the lifeboat station Evening activities: Shell Craft and Barn Dance

What will the food be like? Sample Menus Breakfast Juice, cereal, toast, hot drink. Mid-Morning Snack Squash and biscuits. Lunch A packed lunch is provided for each day of the stay (apart from the first day, where children will bring a packed lunch). Example lunch menu: Sandwiches with salad box Homemade flapjack or Homemade Apple cake Fruit & juice Mid-Afternoon Snack Squash and biscuits.

What will the food be like? Evening Meal* A hot evening meal is provided. Example menus: Pasta with a home made Mediterranean vegetable pesto, served with cheese and garlic bread. Yorkshire pudding with sausage, potato wedges, carrots, peas and gravy. Sweet & sour pork and rice Puddings: Fruit crumble and custard Jam sponge and custard Rice pudding with jam sauce *Salad and fresh fruit are available at all evening meals. If your child has any food intolerances, we will be sending out an allergy form closer to the trip
